Good morning.
I just bought a Travis large flush insert, and I am waiting on my insulated liner. I was worried about the paint burning off inside after install, so I fired it up outside. Had to use a fan and a makeshift to get it burning good.
Hopefully this prep will minimize the fumes in the house.

Can’t hurt. Each time you reach a new high temp it will off gas more.

If the insert got over 500º, most of the paint has been baked in. That fire doesn't look large enough to have done this.

That's pretty hot. Should do it. How was the temp read and where?

Ok. I got it all installed. My first fire was yesterday. I still had some odor. I opened my windows and turned on the whole house fan.
Today I’m not smelling anything yet. I’m waiting for the blower to kick on.

My stove is 30 + years old and I still smell paint now and then. Mostly in the beginning of the season. Every time you hit a higher temp you will get the smell, but it won't be as bad as the first couple of three times.

Often, that first burn or two of the season smell is dust burning off.
