I have very dark smoke coming from my exaust pipe outside, the boielr is running and not in start up mode/

I would guess you're not getting enough air. Possible things to check are:
The air intake flapper. Make certain it's not stuck closed.
Check that all the doors are closed tight. If air is leaking from around those doors it is bypassing the burnpot and you will not have good combustion.
