Different kinds of soot eater.

I purchased a soot eater this year for my light duty corrugated chimney liner. Unfortunately I had not realized there are two kinds. One for a liner (grey flex rods more flexible) and one for fixed open chimneys (black flex rods less flexible) I purchased the open chimney version. Will this work on my straight run from the roof down, or will I need to purchase the other version? Has anyone used black rodded version on a flex liner?

My rods are white. And very flexible.

I’ve got the black rods. It works great. Maybe if you have big offsets kn the chimney, it could be an issue.

I don't think the color of the rod matters, there all flexible.. its the size of the line and head is what matters..

I remember hearing that the white rods are more flexible and were around before the time of the black ones. I’ve only ever had the black and they seem to be flexible enough to handle pretty much any realistic curve you’d find in a liner.

Rockford Chimney Supply sells the white rods. Listing states that they are flexible for liners.
