This site is an absolute godsend! We are soo excited to finally put in our woodburner in the next couple of weekends. however, we want to make sure we do things right so we don't burn the house. We have two very young children so safety is our top priority.
1). We can only find the online manual for the Quadra Fire for the newer model, we have 1994. Are they roughly the same/do we follow the same procedures?
2) We are going to ceramic tile halfway up the wall, using Cement board behind that. Total thickness including tile/board is 3/4". Is that enough? How far up with wall should we go?
3). Is this thickness (3/4") safe thickness for a wood base (Floor joists and plywood)? Or should we do more to prevent it overheating?
4). Closest point to the vinyl window to the stove is 18 1/2 inches. Will it melt the window? What about window treatments?
5) Double wall exhaust pipe through the second floor, up through the attic and out. In the second floor we are enclosing in a 3' x 3' box of studs and drywall. Pipe is 8". Should we use cement board and then drywall, or can we just use drywall ? Basically we need to know if the double wall pipe is going to get super hot.
Finally, we need some advice on placement. We have a corner wall, in which we can run the pipe straight up. The problem is it soo close to the window. The other spot is more towards the middle of the wall, but a second story window forces us to move the pipe using a 45 degree bend. I will attach some pictures of where we are considering it. The big white square represents the size of the woodburner.
