Hi,
I'm installing a new stove at our family cabin, I measured 60" from the stove collar to the drywall ceiling. I'm looking at using DuraVent DVL telescoping pipe that adjusts from 40- 68". I haven't built the hearth pad yet and don't know how tall that will be, plus I like the clean and easy install of the telescoping pipe. My only experience is with crimped single wall pipe, i'm not sure how DVL works. My biggest question is can the telescoping DVL pipe be attached directly to a chimney adapter? or do I need a DVL pipe between the telescoping end and the adapter? The adapters I'm considering are DuraVent Model # 6DVL-ADT or 6DVL-ADC. I guess the other option is attaching a 12" or 18" DVL pipe to the adapter in the ceiling allowing me to use the shorter telescoping pipe that goes from 29"-46". Any advice on what adapter is best and if I can attach the telescoping DVL directly to the adapter? Thank you !

What is the type of chimney pipe and support system being used? Is it DuraTech or DuraPlus? The DVL attaches to the adapter which connects to the DuraVent support box. The difference between the two DVL adapters is one is just the connector and the other has a trim ring.

begreen, thanks for your comment

I haven't bought anything yet (except the stove), but likely will use DuraPlus galvanized chimney under the roof and stainless steel outside. For support I was looking at one of the basic DuraVent 6" through the ceiling chimney kits that come with a 11" square support box. We have a metal roof so I probably wont use the roof flashing that comes with the kit, instead use a rubber boot like this one:

or a dead soft aluminum flashing that can be formed around the ridges of the metal roof, such as this one:

Any advice?

My telescoping dvl bolts right to the short adapter that bolts right to the ceiling support box. No extra sections of dvl needed.

My first suggestion is don't use duraplus. Use a doublewall chimney it is a far superior product than the triple wall duraplus. Next don't use a silicone boot use flashing made of metal you cut a slit in the metal roof that the top of the flashing slides under.

As far as adapting to doublewall pipe from chimney pipe if you use all the same brand it should be spelled out pretty well by the manufacturer

Agreed. Use DuraTech 6" pipe. DuraPlus needs a larger hole and is not as good a chimney. Excel makes a good metal roof flashing that can be used with DuraTech chimney.
