The heavy duty . 018 should liner comes to the insert just fine. Do I need the appliance adaptor. Is it more convinient to connect?
Don't have the liner yet, It says 1/4 thicker than inner diameter.

I think an appliance adaptor is always needed for liner to stove/insert connection. I’m not a pro but I’m pretty sure that the case.

Yes, there needs to be a way to secure the liner to the insert. The clamp variety as shown is correct if the liner comes straight into the flue outlet. If at an angle, there are elbows in 15º and 30º with the clamp, made for this purpose.
