I’ve had it for years, used it a few times but never enough to warrant keeping it around.
Don’t even remember where it came from…

I use a kitty litter scoop to separate ashes from coals if I take ashes out when it's warm (ideal because anything flying gets sucked up in the draft).. Longer handle, larger "basket".
But essentially the same idea

i get how it's used and its purpose, but i would have to open the front doors when i clean out ashes, then separate coals from ashes...
it's not so easy going thru the side door with two instruments; the perforated scoop and a regular shovel to rid the ashes.
i ain't about to open the front doors either...
so i just don't.

I'm not using two at the same time - but I understand.
So it goes in the heap of trash metal in your case :-)

It still doesn't hurt to hand onto. Tis handy for moving ashes to the front and separating coals to the back. Turn to the conventional scoop after for ashes. Unless it takes up to much space in your stove area....LOL

Do we have a pay it forward forum here?

I use mine all the time and find it very handy. I'd come down and buy it from you for up in the Northwoods but avoid driving south of hwy Q between Germantown and Menomonee Falls as much as possible (I'm in northern Washington County near Fond du Lac and Ozaukee County's until the house sells and we move up north...).

I just made one a few weeks ago, because it was something I didn't have but felt I wanted. We have been burning a lot of hickory and it coals great. I don't want to throw out good coals with the ash, so now I can separate them.

I have that exact scoop for, as Mongo says, the coals that are still in the heap of ashes when I burn hickory and maple. When I'm exclusively burning red oak, there aren't any coals left to scoop and sift. So I guess it depends on what wood you're burning and how much good heat in the form of hot coals you want to throw out to decide if you keep it around.

I bet if you really heated that up, it could put a nice cross hatch pattern on the top of a steak.

hey nick , yep that stretch from 41/45 split into the falls and further is a PIA. Now days things don't calm down until you are north of apx hwy 60. Monday evening guy flew past doing at least 90mph weaving in and out. State trooper didn't even bother going after .

That's why we're moving north as soon as the house sells... I'm getting tired of "people" in general. I'm very close to being the old guy yelling at everyone to "stay off my lawn!".😂

Where up north? I’m in Sawyer county. Lots of good firewood up here and scrounging for it is easy if that’s what you’re into.

Oneida County (rural Rhinelander...). Right now I have more down tree's than I know what to do with from the tornado in June and dead ash in the swamp. Lots of pine & aspen, some cherry & maple from the tornado.

I didn’t know they had a damaging tornado there, I’m a technician for Walmart and I’m at the Rhinelander store sometimes but I’m at the Ladysmith, Rice Lake, Hayward and Ashland stores more often. Sounds like you have lots of wood to keep you warm for years to come. I’m working on some logged maple and birch with a little balsam mixed in from a cell tower build just down the road here in Winter. I like it because I can take the old Honda ATV with the Polar trailer to get bring it home. Oh yeah, this was about coal and ash tools.

Yes, June 5th. It went basically right over our new cabin. Tree's down & snapped off all 4 sides but no damage to structures. About 100 tree's down and 50 more leaning and hung up... Of course none of the dead ash in the swamp. Touched down behind the neighbors house and leveled the woods behind him after it went over us and him.

I have a good friend living over by Tomahawk, we talk about once a week. I would love to dump my shop and everything else down here and scoot

I've thought about using some 1/2" welded wire to build a hot coal scoop with. I'd want a fairly long handle because when I'm burning hard, it gets very hot in my stove.

I load 17-18" splits N/S and this one allows me to get all the way in the back.
