I'm currently at work and the wife is home today. I showed her the ropes in operating the PE Summit and she's in charge of makeing sure the oil furnace gets some R&R;today. Anyone here lets their wife operate the Metal Dragon?...

I'm going to make sure my wife is involved in the learning process with the new stove.

As I get the hang of it, I'll make sure that she also working with it. We're hoping that she can find a job closer to home, which will mean she will have to know how to operate the stove since she'll be getting home first.

If she wants to stay warm she does ;)
She is great about emptying the ash pans too

It depends on how busy my morning is.
She aint my wife number one.
She works 3rd shift so she gets up around 1 pm.
If I make sure to have wood handy she can handle it pretty well.
But often I come home and she has been burning the easy stuff, kindling, all day. Better then nothing I suppose.

Mine will dump pellets or in the stove if they are sitting there. but thats about it . The way I see it the female of the species lacks the mental ability to work a torch. and open a door at the same time.

There, that woke a few of em up, happy holidays and turn on the flame thrower, HA HA HA......................................................................Come on burn me bring it on. My auger motor has burned out and I be waitin for a new one so I need the extra heat. Blonds welcome.

" Anyone here lets their wife operate the Metal Dragon?…"

HUH!? I think it is more appropriate "Does wife like or use the Metal Dragon" I honestly don't understand wives that do not burn - or any other 'man' duties. I can get a hotter, faster burn going then my hubby. I also chop my own wood (his and her axes), mow our 2.5ac with my own (we have his and her's) riding mower (he only mowed a small piece of the yard once last year), and anything that he is doing I am right next to him doing it as well - includes running any power equipment, chopping, cleaning, clearing, you name it I'm out there together with him. Actually, I do as much as I can on my own before he even gets home so we can then do bigger projects together (chopping wood for next year, trimming all the branches on our 200 trees...) or he can sit back and enjoy the fire after a hard day at work. I have to admit though I am the only wife in our country neighborhood that does more than stare at the flowers outside.

Nothing wrong with getting dirty & sweaty then heading off to the spa to be re-beautified!

She will do it if I bring the wood in before I leave, but if it runs out while I am gone she says "it is easier going over to the wall and flip the switch for the furnace to on"

I think wood burning is pretty much a guy thing.

I get up early, reload from overnight and get things moving. Before I go to work, I bring her in an armfull of wood and she keeps it going during the day. She is excited that we havent had to use the furnace for heat so far!

All depends on how cold it is. The last few days it has been chilly outside, so she's been keeping a one log fire going all day long. She's been doing quite good too, glass has stayed clean, firebricks are bright white. She's not afraid to burn it nice and hot. I let her load it up for the overnight last night and woke up to coals as usual, so she must have done a decent job. She isn't quite brave enough to load the firebox as tight as I do, but she does pretty good.

My wife loves woodburning. Helps out with the splitting (splitter) and stacking then hauling in the wood. My only problem as I have the type of stove we all now know we have to babysit (defiant nc) so I made a cheat sheet for her. She still doesnt quite get it. If I leave her alone for a period of time that should have only taken one loadup of wood, I get home to find half the woodpile gone! She insists she's doing it how I said.....I doubt it. I can use less wood on a weekend day than she does in 4 hours! But, at least she's trying and WANTS to do it....have to give credit there.

My GF used to (used to) race me home so that she could rekindle the stove. Now it appears to be too much work. Ellie - you got a sister?

For most of us, I get the feeling, if we weren't futzing around with stoves, we would be futzing around with something else.

Hi, My in-laws burned wood before we met so she was accustomed to wood heat already. We also burned wood when I lived at home too. I guess it was only natural that when we built our house 26 years ago that it was designed whith an open floor plan to burn wood. We have shared the duty since then and though it is extra work and a little messy the benefits are well worth it.

Wife ran the stove all last winter when she was home ill. Did an outstanding job. She is still learning the new stove as am I. As I perfect it I teach it to her. Shes the best!

my gorgeous frau Simone kicks butt when it comes to operation of the stove. She can split and carry wood alongside any man I know..all the while looking beautiful. She loads the furnace and woodstove and puts this old man to shame

For many years before she got sick the little brown haired girl ran the stove like a champ. I traveled a lot and the stove ran around the clock.

Back then we used branches and twigs if we ever let the stove run down and needed kindling for a restart or to kick start a crappy load. I came back from a trip and the breezeway was completely full of whole branches and limbs. Huge ones. The place looked like a monster beaver dam. I asked what the deal was and she said she was sick of tramping through the woods gathering sticks so she just spent a day dragging a few weeks supply up whole. And could just break off what she needed when she needed it. Such a good I idea that I filled the pole barn with branches the next week.

When we first got married my wife would fire it up all the time. Then after time went on, only once a week or so - now I'm lucky if it's once a month.
Wait. What was the question?

Yes My wife will start and maintain our stove, when she is home. She does like to have a nice supply of wood ready and cut by the entrance of the house. I think it is great, afterall she paid for it!

After watching me and after gaining confidence that this one won't run away on her, the wife has begun starting the morning fires on weekdays. She works from home and keeps it going all day unles it is too warm and then she lets it die. Frugal with wood and the glass is clean so I say that a wife can be capable of operation. I prepare and haul all the wood and then take over completely when I get home.

My wife is very competent with our wood stove. She can even get it started from dead cold if need be. It's quite nice to not have to babysit her. If I leave for a business trip she's able to keep it going and keep the house warm. The only time the furnace has kicked on in the last 4 years is when we're on vacation.

Yes my wife and I both operate the stove, we are both learning together. The kids and I bring in the wood and do the stacking, although she did stack wood last year. If she wakes up before me she will get it going in the AM. Our furnace has not kicked on yet so we seem to be doing all right so far.

Well I'm the wife and so far the only one to fool with the woodburning chores. Husband splits but I do everything else- stacking, rearranging woodpiles, and all of the insert duties. He just hasn't the time to do it and I enjoy it tremendously.

OH YEAH, and further more, she goes and gets wood from the woodpile if there isn't any. Look at the picture, we're talking two hoops. She is a wonderful one, she hates the deal but loves me and does it anyway.

heck yeah she does. operates it just fine
