Was just wondering why the stove I'm still trying to install can be 6" away from back wall and 14" from sidewall combustibles but the floor needs an r-value of .595. I would think the walls would get hotter than the floor. 3 layers of durock seems like overkill. I'm going to follow the requirements anyway , I am just curious. Maybe I'm just a dumb@$$

Side and back walls are vertical surfaces and as such are cooled by convection air currents.

ok what about the cool air coming across the floor back to stove?
