There is a small gap between the outside of the stove pipe and the pipe receptacle on top of the stove. Since that is 'outside' of the burning chamber, is it OK to leave it unsealed, or would I be better off sealing it?

there shouldn't be a gap.... perhaps the installer bent the stove pipe... take it out and look

mine sits pretty tight!

My DW (cat stove) had the same gap. I sealed it one season with furnace cement (messy). I did not notice a difference sealed or not but always figured it should be sealed. The last 5 years I had the stove it was not sealed.
