My pellets are stored in the basement and I open the bag down there, pour some into a pail, bring them upstairs and pour them into the stove. Takes a couple of trips but worth not making the mess.

How bout using a coal hod?

This is what I use.
Dump the pellets into the hod first then into the hopper.
The one I have holds about 1/3 bag at a time and actually makes it
easier for me to get all the pellets into the hopper rather than
spilling them all over the stovetop and the floor.

We found a chest at Home Goods which will hold about 1.5 bags of pellets.
We dump the bags into the chest and us abig scooper to load the hopper
works fine

That's how i do it, also be careful of the plastic around the stove when its hot! very messy indeed :-)

I went to big lots and got a wicker bin that holds over 4 bags of pellets. When i fill the wicker bin i put the bags in the bin slicle them open and pour slowly into the bin then close it until i need pellets. I then use a grain scoop and fill the hopper. Very little mess, nice wicker bin 30 bucks at big lots. they have smaller one also and they are lined with cloth so no dust escapes. So now with the stove full and 4+ bags in the wicker bin i am all set for the week and the wife need not lift a bag ever. <<<*(&(^^%$.

Woodsman,

You are such a nice hubby!

I cut the corner of the bag then pour them in, only messy when I don't pay attention to what I am doing.

What brand of stove do you have? My stove came with a steel funnel type adapter that you place on top of the stove. I can load a full bag into mine without dropping any pellets. Check with your manufacturer to see if they make one for your stove.

Open bag pour them in, if some fall on the floor now the cat can play pellet hockey,Stove has many uses cat has a warm place to sleep and pellets keep her entertained and the house stays warm. I love my stove!!!!

I have a Lennox Profile 30 Insert and don't have an issue. I open the hopper lid and set the hinge latch so it stays open. I take a bag and cut a 6" long section out of the top so one corner is open. Then I just pour it in but pass the bag from left to right & back again to get it evenly distributed in the hooper. If the stove is empty, I'll cut the whole top off and up-end the bag into the hopper as the bag width is less than the hopper width.

The only thing I have an issue with is I have to watch for pellets getting into the lid latch so a pellet doesn't get stuck in it making it impossible to drop the latch (then I have to dig into the pellets to get the offending one out of the latching hinge which is a PITA).
