Effects of a wood stove in front of cold air return vent?

Hi folks,

I'm interested in installing a wood stove in my living room. A cold air return vent is along the base of the wall on the floor, and is located right where I'd like to install the stove. Any ideas if this would be a issue? Hot air rises, so I can't imagine it would really mess with with the cold air... but I don't know.

By code in most places you cant have a cold air return with in 10' of a wood stove. If you get a back draft or some other issue the carbon monoxide could kill everyone in your house.
