Didn't know barges and canals were ever not a thing. I see them going up the Hudson all year long and using the Mohawk during the ice free months, when they have the water higher.

Only new thing is them being electric.
 
Lots of the big ships have an electric drive train...its just usually a diesel motor generating all the power for the electric motors.

Why do they keep saying emission free? Is all the energy from solar and wind?

Most of it. Eneco supplies the power for recharging the batteries. They also generate power burning waste wood chips.
