The start of the 2014-15 wood heating season arrived yesterday and the next 5 days may keep it going - lows in the 30'sF with night frost and highs in the 50'sF. On the one hand, I don't like to start burning wood until October, but on the other hand the wood burning season has a mystique that still leaves me in awe over the massive energy in wood and knowing that the energy source is sustainable.

This is the beginning of Year 8 for the Tarm Solo Plus 40 for the shop, truly a gentle work horse doing the job without complaint; and the beginning of Year 25 for the SeeFire wood stove in the house, which only has needed a little renewal of the innards (new firebrick and steel baffle plate) from time to time. I also have the opportunity to experience the awe-some performance of a Wood Gun E500, Garn WHS3200, and Froling FHG 50, which together provide heat and DHW for a 62,000 sq ft facility. I never imagined that my post-60 year life would be so productive in a field far from my prior professional life ... and enjoying every minute of it.

Very eloquently said.

I am firing one up tonight...just to celebrate...I may also raise a toast with a spaten.

Been burning all summer.

It will be my last summer doing it though. Too much waste heat where I don't want it. Nyletherm-1 HPHW heater going in next week.

Was nice to just throw a few extra logs in, and crank on the radiant. Wood is only getting better! Two plus years ahead, working on more!

Fired up the econoburn 4 hours ago. Nights in the low 40s this week. Mama will be complaining with temps that low.

Cool and rainy here too. I burn all year, but first heat of the season going to the rads the other day. felt nice to get out of the shower to a warmed towel !!

Nicely said, gentleman Jim.

I did too - not sure if I will next year or not, will see how much burnable junk I have laying around when next spring comes. If I don't have much, I may finally make the Nyletherm leap. Or just turn on the electric. I didn't find the waste heat a problem this year summer though - might be because we didn't seem to have a whole lot of hot summer weather. Also improved my tank insulation, and have a bit more to do yet on that.

I didn't fire up yet this year but would have if the controller I bought wouldn't have went bad. I took it to Mark at Ahona . The controller is not the EKO one . It is Marks custom made one that is made in New York with parts made in America. It is on it's way back now and will be in use soon. We had frost on the windshield and lawn this morning. I used the furnace a few times. Jebatty, where in Minnesota do ya live anyway?
