Hi all im new to this whole pellet thing and i wanted to try it out without breaking the bank. I went to my local dealer and couldnt stomach 3600 for a high end Harmon. My house is a 2600 sq ft cape with 600 sq ft of that belonging to a family room with 15 ft ceilings. I wanted as stove to off set some of my oil use. I picked up the englander and stuck it im my living room. I have an open floor plan with minimal obstructions. After turning it on to 9-9 blower / feed I was like wheres the heat. I know its a small unit and from HD but my wife's hair dryer puts out more btu's. LOL. so after reading several reviews / issues / tweaks I finally got it working quit well. Heres what I did.

It has a build date of 11/12

I changed the heat mode from D to C then I opened up a few holes in the burn plate to make then bigger. Used a 1/4 drill. Set feed to 5 or 6 blower on 9 Then I turned the low air burn button all the way to 9. the flame tips are over the top of the glass. The heat is much better that D 9-9. I get no soot or black on window and a more clean full burn in the burn pot. after testing several brands I found that Lignetics Pellet or Hamers work the best. I have to say it is really pumping out the heat. Now lets see how long it lasts.

Seems a bit extreme? I actually have to lower the feed rate from 6-4-1 to 5-4-1 as i have seen temps in the 75-80 degree range I Im also thinking if they wanted the holes bigger they would have done so at the factory?
But if it works for you then nice job!
My problem seems to be ash the ash im left with after 10 or so hours are like coffee grounds rather than soft fluffy ash? Any one else have a solution to more completely burning these pellets?? Air??

I would have contacted ESW before any modifications were done, they are top notch in helping out plus your under warranty.
I never heard about drilling out the holes on the wear plate to increase air flow, dono, "but" if it was on the Internet it must be true "bonjour".....I'm sure mike from ESW will chime in soon.

I have same issue, I know others with the pdvc with same issues. I think it's just the way it is, I've lowered my ash volume by using higher quality pellet. The only pellet that gives me a somewhat fluffy white ash is hammers.... Cheat river, gt,etc I get that brownish coffee ground pile.
