Englander 30NC Wood Stove Problem With Welds Any Advice?

Hello All,

I have an Englander 30NC wood stove that was purchased new from Home Depot just under a year ago. I've been pleased with it for the most part, but have recently noticed a problem developing.

Just last week I noticed what appears to be a separation in the welds at the bottom of the door opening, right behind the glass. The steel pushes up when the stove is hot, and then goes back down a bit when it gets a little cooler, though not all the way down. (I have attached photos that show this condition). I am concerned that repeated separation at this location will cause failure of this part. It already looks like it is coming apart where the the welded seam is.

I don't overfire the stove, I'm actually quite careful with it and baby it a bit. Has anyone ever seen this happen before? Should I contact England's Stove Works directly about this, or contact Home Depot? Any advice about what to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean between the door frame and the glass? Like the gasket is failing and there's a gap? I'm afraid I just don't follow and can't see where the problem is. Maybe an arrow added to your pic would make it show up better?

In general though, Englander customer support has been good to a lot of people over the years, and I would definitely contact them directly.

Looks like it's on the door opening and not the door itself. It's not very thick metal.

Wow, I have never seen that before, I would call Englander directly and show them the pics, you def have something going on there, both sides and it looks pretty equal. Englander seems like a good company and I'm sure they will make things right by you.

Mine is doing it too. Just not as bad. Yet. I noticed it puckering up on either side of the doghouse just recently.

I also had the thin airwash plate at the top of the door melt and sag down. What the hell? My NC30 is also under two years old from home depot. Did Englander change their design?

actually it looks like its between where the welds are not actually at the welds themselves, hard to tell in the picture and im going from memory.

have you contacted my shop yet?

That's correct. The weld is holding.

Thanks to all who replied. The pics aren't the best because the camera responds poorly when aimed at a flame. When the fire gets low, the swelling and separation of the steel of this part along the bottom (just inside the door) shrinks and is not as noticeable. (I don't know what this part of the stove is called). I'm attaching another photo now with the fire very low, and if you compare to the pics taken when burning hot, you can see how the steel shrinks back a bit. My concern is that repeated swelling and shrinking will pull the steel completely apart. I will be contacting Englander, but wanted to get any thoughts or advice on the forum here first.

It's on the steel itself, the bottom just inside the door, on both the right and left of what I think is called the "doghouse" air inlet in front.

@stoveguy2esw who replied works for Englander Stove, get on the horn and give them a call.

I'm thinking this is a non-issue, but they'll be able to explain that shield's purpose and tell you for certain.

NJmark - did you ever get this resolved? I just started using an 30 NC that has the exact same issue.
