I recently purchased an Englander wood/coal furnace. The stove appears to have had little use. The label says wood/coal but, There is no shaker . I didn't buy it for the coal option and am courious if coal could be used in it.
Englander model 28 DDSS
Any help will be appreciated.

Englander doesnt advise it anymore but you could probably burn a little bituminus coal (soft coal) in it if you can find any. You would never get anthracite to burn in it.

that stove was designed as a primary wood burner, addition of coal to an existing wood fire gave a longer burn time, but it was not designed or intended to be a primary coal burning unit.

thanks for the info guys. I bought it because it was in great condition and has a heck of a blower with it. The fire box looks like the inside of a locomotive and can hold 100lbs of wood.
