Hello everyone.
I have an Enviro M55. I have a thick layer of creosote build up behind my ash box in the bottom of the stove. I clean my stove weekly during the winter season. I don't know why there's such a build up. I tried the salt/dawn/ammonia mixture. Did nothing. I use the Rutland creosote remover pellets at least once a week. How can I get get rid of the build up. Thanks in advance, Rosie

Are you burning your stove on low all the time?
If so I suggest you turn it up at least halfway for a couple of hours day
this will burn off the creosote and should keep the firebox and it behind clean
Also, use only premium pellets

Hi Johneh. Thanks for your response and welcome. I am burning at a 3 or 4 usually. I generally do an hour at the highest once a week. It's not taking care of the build up I have at all. I'm kind of at a loss right now.

OK then there are a few other things that may cause your problem
How old is your stove? Check all the gaskets. Door, and ash pan.
The dollar bill test works best. Do you have an outside air kit (OAK)installed
also what brand of pellets do you use?

I do have an OAK installed. I have used various premium brands of pellets. I generally get the mix of hard and soft wood. I changed my door gasket midseason last winter. The ash box door is fine. I did the dollar bill test on both. I really would like to know if there's any kind of solvent to put on the already built up creosote behind the ash box. Thanks!

I know of no solvent that is made to do that. I would guess
that something like Laqure thinner would work but very flammable.
Have you tried a pain scrapper? I know some people who burn it off
maybe heat it with a propane torch and scrap when it puffs up and
blisters. Just don't hold the flame in any one place too long it will ignite
Someone else may have a non-flammable solution.
