Hello all,

we are purchasing a very old farmhouse that has an 1800’s fireplace (that is huge because it was used for cooking). We would like to install a gas insert. Our local gas insert retailer believes our only option is a gas stove vs an insert. Has anyone had this issue ? We just like the aesthetics of a gas stove.

Attached are photos of the fireplace. The dimensions of the fireplace opening are:

ANY sized insert will require a custom surround to make it look aesthetically pleasing.
A gas stove can be installed in the existing opening or slightly onto the hearth.
Either way will look good, but I would suggest you go for the cast iron woodstove
look as opposed to a more modern steel unit.
The pic is a Jotul GF600 installed in a fireplace...
