Need some information. I am bringing a face cord of wood to a friend. I don't want to short him . Probem is my piles fell into each other so its tough to measure 4x8. Is there a good idea out here on how "full" a 7' bed should be with a face cord in it?

Thanks!

You could wait until the truck is unloaded and restacked for final measurements. Then charge accordingly.

A face cord is one-third of a full cord or 1/3d of 128 cu ft = 42.66 cf. Give them a little extra for peace of mind and friendship.

That makes sense......but the guy just wants it piled.

Your truck bed is roughly 5'x7' and 16" tall, correct? Stacked to the top of bed side would be 45 cu ft. Subtract the wheel wells, darn close to 42.66 cu ft.

Yep thats what I'm figuring. I will mound it a bit just to be generous. Thanks!!!

I have the same truck in 2000 f350. It's a little under 7 feet actually and that is the "short bed" of full sized fords. The long bed is slightly longer at 8'.

Yep kinda depends where you measure it from. 7’ was close enough

It’s a pretty long short bed. I only wish we got the fuel tank from the long bed! 10 more gallons.

Ha! And with the v 10 about 13 miles per gallon!

My Chevy truck actually measures 6 1/2' inside the bed, it is considered a short bed though. A stacked bed up to the sides generally is about 1/4 of a true cord.

You should be about a face cord (rick they call it around here). As someone said, unload it and stack, and you'll know what you have.

Bob was already taken

Why "rick" ?
No clue. In south central Indiana you'll almost never hear someone speak of a face cord. And they'll more likely say "three ricks", as opposed to a "cord." If I had to guess, a rick was some kind of rack to hold wood, and when people started selling it they used it as a measure.

A rick of firewood is a firewood measurement used to describe a quantity of wood. Unlike a cord of firewood which is 128 cubic feet, a rick or face cord is not a consistent measurement, so it can vary from place to place.
The biggest problem with a buying a rick of wood is the fact that you don't know exactly how much wood you are getting. The length of the logs dictate how much wood you get.
It is a popular term in Western Quebec where firewood is sold by the rick
and depending on the seller the length is 12, 14, 16, 18, or 20 inches
so you could by a rick 4x8x20

Why "rick" ?
My neighbor who is in his late 80's calls each row a "Rick" and when your stacking wood, he calls it "Ranking a Rick"
