So this is our second year burning with a Regency CI2600, and the one thing that still drives me bonkers is the shape of the firebox.

Here is a top-down view. You can see how the stove narrows significantly towards the back, losing 5" on each side from the front.

Is there a stove out there similar to this one, with a square firebox? The narrow back means having to fit logs into this thing like a jigsaw puzzle, or stacking the sides with kindling to pad out the empty space.
 
Mine is the same, I just load all my splits E/W to one side then stick another one N/S on the other side to fill the space. It is a pain.

Most Inserts are designed with taper to the back, to fit in most fireplaces. Square boxes are more common in freestanding stoves.
