I have a wood fireplace that came with the house. It has a blower and the blower works (i opened the bottom grate and snooped around) but I don't feel any air movement or hot air coming out of the upper grate. It is not my primary source (pellet stove) but I would love to get this working more efficiently. Any advice?

I take it that the blower is integrated into the fireplace as sort of a heatilater? I used to have one in a previous house, it took awhile to get it going before I would feel heat. not sure how to fix it. if you can get to the blower motor/fan, you might want to see if its all gummed up. cleaning might help.

yes, it is a heatilater type deal. It works...I had it apart and reintalled it and was able to squeeze my hand to the back and sure enough it was blowing...the air just aint making it up and through the top grate.

when you had it apart did you by chance check out the vents/grates. maybe something is blocking it.......or is there something that could have become disconnected between the fan and the duct/grate?

hmmm I have to go scope it out...the grates are clear...
.......damn it jim........ i'm all out of guesses but it sounds like its acting like there is no direct connection from the blower to the upper grates. gotta ask, anything coming out the bottom?

i'm sure with all the folks in here, someone has probably had this problem. more suggestions/help will be on the way.

If it is of any constellation, my cousin has a heatilater type fireplace that performs exactly like Phil's. After taking it apart there appeared to be no direct connection to the output upper grates and the best I could decipher is that the name is correct ...... heat-uh-maybe-later ! This particular appliance is about 30 yrs old with no mfg plate on it anywhere (unless it's hidden on the backside).
