Question:

I am in the process of designing a new house which will have a stone (at least exterior is stone) fireplace open to both side. Is there a good source for fireplace and chimney designs? I am assuming it will have to be custom built on site by the masons. Are there any special considerations for the draft, flue, etc since there will be more open space?

Answer:

You need lots of info to make certain this is constructed correctly. Start with the article about chimney sizing at https://www.hearth.com/what/specific.html and then go to the site http://www.rumford.com for more masonry links and information.
