@begreen this is in your lane.
Ok the existing system is a modular fire place hooked up with HHT SL300.in 8" There is between 20-25ft from the ceiling to the cap. My friend wants to get rid of the fireplace and the wooden surround and put in a wood stove in the 50-60k BTU range in its place.

My first thought is to set a thimble at ceiling height and bring down 6" double wall stove pipe to the stove. My thought is the tall stack in 8" may be advantageous to weaken the draw some?
Option 2 would be to drop a 6" insulated liner in the pipe and thimble that at the ceiling.
Option 3 is still unknown to be but I'm sure it will be kicked up here 😁.
The house is a modern log home with silicone chinking so it's probably pretty tight. The stove BTU rating is over the rating of the gas logs the fireplace has been converted over to. This would be used for primary heat in the place instead of the gas logs in it right now.
Wood is no problem to get since he lives in 10 acres of wood and he burned wood for primary heat in New York so he's not a new by to this and just needs better heat in the place other than propane to back this up.
What do you all think?
