Fireplace X Large flush mount thermostat

Hello everyone, i purchased a fireplace xtrordinaire large flush mount insert last November. i've burned fires then as backup to my natural gas furnace. i would like to use the stove a lot more this year. my question is monitoring the temperature of the stove as you cannot get to the flue pipe. any recommendations on monitoring the temperature from the face of the unit? it's a hybrid with no CAT.
