I ordered my soapstone fireview stove today tomorrow Ill order my chimney liner after I make some final measurements. I cant wait for it to get here this dang electric heat is killing my wallet!! I would like to say thanks to everyone on here that has helped me wether they know it or not. Yall have been incredibly helpful in my decision making process, I was all set to get an insert then I started reading about freestanding stoves and decided to get a cheap one then somebody sent me a link to woodstock.com and needless to say I was sold from there even though its costing me quite a bit more than I was prepared to spend I do believe it will be worth it. Thank you again for this warm welcoming internet community.

Welcome, I really don't comment very much here because to be honest, I'm really still learning myself, but I can definitely say for sure that you will love your stove, this will be my 2nd season with mine and it continues to amaze me, its very easy to operate and very efficient. It puts out a warmth like you have never felt before, and also, their are many Fireview owners on this forum that can answer any questions you have, enjoy...your getting an Awsome stove!!

yes sir. the electric heat is not the way to go!! you have chosen a very very well made stove and the heat you are going to get out of that stove will be incredible. ive burned wood for a long time and recently purchased the progress hybrid soapstone stove. its top notch. makes burning wood a lot easier than what i was used too. myself and my wife are super happy with its performance and efficieny, and we tend to be a little obsessive with efficiency. Good call on the fireview. Enjoy

Matt, we congratulate you on the new stove. You'll not be sorry and you are dealing with a top notch company. Now you need to get a few things in order, like the fuel and chimney, etc. You will also need a way to move the stove as these things are super heavy. Some use the 2 wheeled dolly but we found this to work really well:


We left the stove in the crate until we got it right in front of the hearth. From there we uncrated it and with the help of a couple really strong guys, it went right onto the hearth really quick and easy.

When you get the stove you'll need to do 3 burn-in fires and let us know when you are to do them as we can give you good instructions on the best way to do it.

I predict a very happy Holiday season for you this year!

Congrats on a great stove! I bought a fireview this year and I absolutely love it, great stove and an even better company. If you use those furniture dollys to move your stove and you have hardwood floors do yourself a favor and buy some cheap 1/8 paneling or something to roll on. I just had my floors refinished and the wheel left a pretty good mark on the floor.

Thanks Savage Im working on the fuel and chimney as we speak I started another thread in here asking for some advice about removing my exsisting damper and installing the liner that seems to be my only hold up right now. I cant wait to get it and start burning. Ive got a piano dolly and some strong helpers lined up for moving the stove inside. Also dylskee thats a great idea I do have wood floors I hadnt thought about that will definatly look into something to help protect the floor.

Same thing here, 1840 pine floors , we were wheeling and looked down about half way to the hearth,, whoops, we carried it the rest of the way. Those are memory marks now. It just added a little character. Here I had two strips of plywood on the heart pad, but nothing for the floor.

I took the top off, fire brick out and and the door off, once we got underneath the stove, two people carried it waste high to the hearth.

So how much of an area are yall heating with your fireviews? Im figuring with proper fan placement I should be able to get the whole house about 1800 sf. Just wondering what the full capability of this stove is.

Congrats on the new stove. I used to heat 2000 sq ft with my Fireview which was install in a finished basement. It wasn't ideal and there was about a 4-10 degree difference between floors but it pretty much kept us comfortable 90% of the time. IMO a well insulated 1800 sq ft home would be a nice fit for the Fireview.

We'll be heating a 2300 sq. ft farmhouse, previous owners spent 20 years building a house within a house here, was and still is post and beam underneath, air space and framed new 2x6 walls inside all along the exterior walls. I feel the Fireview will take care of us no problem. It's one heating machine,,, like people have said,,,,, don't let the size fool ya! Loaded the stove with silver maple last night at 9 PM, today at 8 am, stove was at 200. Open the loading door to find coals , loaded in some more wood and away she went,,, sweet! Wood burning just became super easy! Set it and forget it! Just remember to keep the stove pallet. You find out you need something different,,,, your not stuck with a stove you already used. The good folks at Woodstock will take the stove back, and even pay for the return shipping. Now it's up to you to go to the Hybrid or what ever you need to do. It's a nice feeling to know your dealing with a company that understands! I think the Fireview will be fine. Please let us know how it works out. Your going to love how easy it is to run!

I'm heating a 2 story cape at about 1600 sq.ft. without a problem. My stove is on the first floor in the living room and we can maintain 75+ without a problem. Again, we haven't had any really cold temps yet but I don't see a problem when we do. The stove is really easy to run that's for sure, and I'm really happy I bought this stove!

Just to clarify my last post a little more in detail, that 75 degrees is throughout the entire house, obviously a little warmer in the stove room but we all love the heat. The great thing about this stove is you can dial it down and run a low heat burn and the stove radiates heat for hours and hours. My last stove didn't hold the heat like this one and it was very hard to run a low burn. You'll know what I mean when you get yours and get it going.

I have cut my oil consumption drastically over the last few years, I have been heating 100% with wood and only use the oil for hot water. When I was heating with oil I was spending $450.~$550. a month, I spent $600. on wood for the entire heating season!

I was heating over 2400sqft with the fireview - granted in the coldest January days we didn't get the place up above 68 and were loading fairly often, but the house is 2x4 and fairly large so not the most ideal situation. Still - we were warmer than when burning the oil and didn't generally light a match from Dec until March unless we left town or had an unusually warm spell (which was nice as it gave us a chance to dust the cat).

David, we did the same thing. Wanted one but it just was not in the budget at the time. Oh how I wished it were. Had I known then what I know now, I would have borrowed dollars to get it many moons ago. But we put up with an old Ashley that ate wood quickly, dirtied the chimney and did not do a very good job of keeping us warm. When we finally got the Fireview we were really amazed. At first I had big doubts that little thing could keep us warm but we soon found we burned only half the fuel we did with the Ashley and we also stay a lot, lot warmer. We no longer close off rooms in the winter either.

btw, the Fireview is our only heating unit as we sold our furnace over 30 years ago. We have no problem keeping warm and at this time of the year we do lots of new fires because we just can not keep the stove going full time unless we open doors and windows. We have lots of wood on hand (probably 6 years worth) but can't see wasting it.



Good point on those hardwood floors as that is something I had not thought of. We had no problems.

I used all the money in my savings for my Fireview and that money was for a tropical island trip for my wife and I. We have been married for 20 years 4 days ago and we have never been on our honeymoon, after a lot of talks we decided to postpone the trip until next year and be warm this winter. She's happy with the decision and we all know that's all that matters! (Happy wife, happy life!) I was really hoping the stove wasn't going to be a flop, my best purchase so far!
