First Cleaning this year

Well I received my "Sooteater" and it works well ! I clean once last year about this time and still only got about a third of a coffee can of soot. Nice dark brown fluffy soot. I must be burning/doing something right. Just alittle FYI for those of us who don't like to go up top to the chimney for the cleaning, the sooteater really does work well. $60.00 on Amazon

I got one late last year, and find that it works great. It doesn't get all the way down from the top of chimney, it is flexible enough that I can feed it up through the stove to clean the lower part of the chimney. It has become my primary cleaning brush.

eba, did you check to find out the cost of additional rods so it would reach all the way?


I can see how they would work quite well but I wonder how stiff the ends are and how long it will last. Seems it could wear out quite fast. I'd be curious if anyone has had one for a long time.

Did not look at purchasing additional rods, yet. As for use/wearout I have used it 4 times already (3 times last burn year and 1 once this year before starting the burn year) with not even a sign of wear. Depending how this year goes I may invest in another two or three sections to make it the whole way.

nice job burning Backwoods ! some of my wood probably wasn't as season as it should have been, but still happy with the resultsI must be burning hot enough, often enough to keep her pretty clean. No problem this year...well seasoned wood ! oh and you may be confusing peoples cirtising your wood for jealousy !
