By all means. Stay far away from them. Remember that you do need heat going up the chimney to keep things working right. Steal that heat and.....
 
If anything you might get away with single wall pipe for some heat scavenging . That's what I run and seems to be fine.
 
New stoves . . . avoid.

Get all the heat you need from the woodstove . . . not the "exhaust."
