I'm seeing if anyone out there has experience sizing a heat exchanger for a hot tub.
I'm hoping to get my Eko40 based system (1000 gallon insulated/pressurized storage, two Amtrol JH-7, 42 gallon, indirect water heaters are the bascs), and want to modify my 'new to me' Jacuzzi J-355 hot tub set up for utilizing the system as opposed to using electric to heat it.
I've been looking at spa/pool heater exchangers, and of course, I'd love to get some high BTU Titanium exchanger to heat it up quickly, but I'm coming to realize that if I go too high, I may overheat the pumps/plumbing of the hot tub as well. Does anyone know a good balance between being able to heat it up reasonably fast when needed, but not going overkill and cooking the hot tub's system to death?
I currently have the hot tub in one of our garages for testing to make sure everything works (bought it seeing it filled, but the guy was selling it due to his home not having enough capacity to power another 60amps. I plan on dropping it into our back deck, so I want to confirm everything works and add the heat exchanger BEFORE my old, out-of-shape butt need to do it crawling under a deck.
Any advice on realistic sizing of the heat exchanger would be welcome.
Specs on the hot tub:
400 gallons
Original Electric heater is a 5.5KW (18,767 BTU?) unit.
