I am remodeling and am a fireplace novice so bear with me...I have a masonry cinder block fireplace and am installing a wood insert. We are thinking of hanging the TV above. If I want to frame around the cinder block to get the electric and wiring up to the TV what is the best way? Metal studs? Can you get away with wood studs if you stay within the combustible distances for the insert? I do have a 18" hearth that is being re-installed below fireplace and a barn beam mantel.

Thanks in advance.

You can use any combustible material as long as you respect clearances, otherwise you would need to use metal studs, cement board etc.

Metal studs already have holes for wiring etc. No drilling needed. Just something to consider.
