Question:

We have an old Franklin fireplace That has the number 76 cast prominently in the center of one of the back plates. Is this fireplace from 1876? Is there a catalog available to look up old Franklin fireplaces? I can't seem to find one on the Web.

Answer:

Hard to tell. Most (98%+) of the Franklin fireplaces around today were made in the period from 1960-1980. You might look closer for a foundry name or a "made in Taiwan (or other place) raised lettering stamped into the casting.
