Fresh Air Intake

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what ducting I can use for the OAK on my Drolet 1800. The manual doesn't explicitly state what calssification or type of hose to use, but when I checked out the air damper kit they offer it specifies using a duct that meets UL 181. Which is an insulated hose as far as I can tell, which is really unsightly.

Can I use something as simple as this? (broken link removed) The attachment coming off the back of the stove is 5".

You could use that, but if you live in a cold climate, you risk getting condensation or icing on the intake in cold weather.

I've been losing sleep trying to figure out what to do with this... and then I found this article this morning. Thoughts?

Another suggestion I had given to me was to build a "duct" out of 1/2" insulation board and run it from the intake to either an open vent to the room, or build this "duct" under the floor and bring it up to the back of the stove with a steel 90 duct and just paint it.

I'm at the point of just putting the damned stove in and adding a fresh air intake at some other point. Any help or insight would be appreciated, thanks!

Certainly plenty of wood stove running just fine without outside air. Unless your house is very small and extremely tight they're not needed IMO.
