Feeling the Heat

I just had rock wool stuffed around my liner. Time to make a proper block off plate. Plain sheet steel thin enough for me to work seems elusive. Galvanized can be had at Lowe’s, I’m afraid of off gassing.
I’ve seen my stainless collar connecting the stove to liner glow. Only once and not my normal burning habit. But that’s only 12” away from where galvanized steel would live.
Am I over thinking this!? Just use the galvanized sheet from Lowe’s. Or seek out plain sheet steel.

Galvanized is fine. And no part of the stove or vent should ever glow. If it does you are overfiring it

Thanks. And yeah I was alarmed when i turned out the light and noticed a slight glow to the stainless collar from stove to liner. Seasoned oak and 20 yr old 2x3 scrap lumber. Won’t try that again.
