Why don't they just put the manure on a big pile, cover it up ans extract the methane into a furnace... Hey, was a thought.
 
Somewhere I read several reports on farm methane generation systems. the particular ones in the report generated enough fuel to take the farm completely off grid. Primary reason these were being set up was to comply with EPA and local DNR waste run off rulings. I have been out of the loop for a long time now but I know that there is lot more regulation envolved here in WI as well. Particularly if your place is close to suburbia. The insane assessments and rise in taxes to support ever expanding suburbia doomed our family farms economically.
