If the long range winter weather forcast for 2011-2012 is even remotely accurate......I'm glad I'm ready with my wood supply. Living in WNY off the lake erie the lake effect snow machine will be in high gear. Erie is still at 67 and ontario at 62. Doubt if they will freeze this year. Huge pockets of cold air building in the northern most regions of canada sooner or later will come screaming across those lakes. Lots of cold and snow. Glad I'm ready with plenty of wood.

Most of the computer models are now pointing toward a double-dip la Nina for us. I'm not looking forward to it.

I have the best supply of wood in my history. That being said I need to hurry to finish the garage to house the equipment and some fuel so the wet wont be as big of problem as last year.

As do I. Though, next year's wood will surpass this years in terms of quality. But from that point on, it should all be gravy as I am finally 2+ years ahead in supply.

I'm also building a garage before winter sets in.

ya i too have the most wood i ever had so im ready and i have new generator if we run into any major trouble...

I'm thinking about getting a generator myself. Want to have my electrician out to put a pig tail on my furnace. Can never have too many backups.

Even the Wooly Worms are agreeing.

Wooly worms predict severe Pennsylvania winter with deep snow

LEWISBURG - If the woolly worms are correct, schoolchildren might be getting a number of snow days this winter.
Judges who examined the color of black and brown fur of caterpillars Saturday at the 15th annual Woolly Worm Festival are predicting normal precipitation and temperatures early in the winter.
That will change to colder temperatures and well above normal precipitation, according to the judges who examined a number of caterpillars before reaching their forecast.
Chief Judge Steve Connolley, who claimed the woolly worms have an 80 percent accuracy, said based on what he observed, winter is going to be severe with deep, deep snow.
AccuWeather is forecasting a stormy and cold winter for central Pennsylvania with mild spells. An early-season lake-effect snow could blanket the northwestern part of the state, it says.

NordicSplitter, the lake effect you get is nasty. We did get snowed in when we were in a minor hockey tournament in Oswego one year, came down 81 with three or four foot snow banks a day later.

We added a generator two days before the ice storm of 1998, still running strong. Things we have on our generator panel, well pump, microwave, freezer, fans for the wood stove & propane fireplace, oil furnace and lights in certain rooms with some electrical outlets.

Well I, for one, can't WAIT for winter.....me and the family love it, I look forward to those days when you get up and there is an eerie calm outside, and upon looking out the window there's a couple of feet of fresh white stuff on everything out there!...snowmobile is ready, I got enough wood for three years split, stacked, and covered, so you go right ahead and bring it on, OLD MAN WINTER!!!

The Lake Effect is always a treat. A little wind one way and the city gets hit. A little movement and the Southtowns get hit. Love those oscillating snowbands!

We've got plenty of wood, a little generator, and just a few things that need to be wrapped up for the fall and then it can start snowing. Should be an interesting winter- everything I've read agrees with what you're saying too Nordicsplitter!
