Gotta love the shoulder season

Woke up this morning at 6:30am and loaded four 16" splits in the Oslo onto the coals left over from the nights burn (outside temps were a chilly 43). Came home from work, took the dog for a walk, ran some errands blah blah. When I returned home around 6:00pm I go to the stove to empty the ash pan and I notice I still have usable coals! I wasnt going to light a fire cause its only suppose to drop to about 40-45 tonight but the were calling for wood! Needless to say im sure this wont happen when the temps drop really low but I got a kick out of it!
Contrary to the post title, the shoulder season really sucks when you have a new stove...i need to CONSERVE my wood, its just so hard to not fire it up and "get any kinks out" as I have been telling my wife :lol:

I know, oh how I know. I have heated us out of the joint in October so many times. And I always suggest a cord more of wood than will be needed in later years when somebody has a new stove. Ya just gotta burn it! Early.

I love this time of year........little wood and nice fire..heats the whole house.....
plus I can use more softwood for heat and short fires
the reason i have a stove is to burn when I want ...not when I need to or do I have enough wood..

Just went and checked the High / Low recording thermometer in the room with the stove. Guess the 83 degrees I read wasn't the High point of the stove's work!

Ha! I think it'll be on ebay in a few weeks for anyone who is looking for a good deal on an end of season yacht anchor.

Although, that Fisher did set that thermometer up to 101 one evening when I (and my Yuengling Black and Tan liquid inspiration) thought it necessary to prepare in advance for an approaching cold snap :shut:

Yup lighting mine tonight. its only 49F outside, (36F last night) but my house is down to 63F and I heard the furnace kick on a few times.

Not burning tonight, it was just too nice outside all day... I moved some wood & broke a bit of sweat, plus kids are not home tonight & I do not mind 66 degrees! The beauty of shoulder season for you

I'm guilty also, caught wood handed. Tonight cloudy raining an 60 at 9:30 PM, so not tonight but had the day off and got up early just to fire it up, overnight lows 41!

Yuengling will not sell beer in CT over something that happened many years ago. Luckily my little sister lives in Strousburg, PA. Beer is good and still pretty cheap. Even bud light is foreign beer now.

Everybody on here knows the bottom of the barrel beer that I love, but every once in a while like tonight I feel the need to support the poor working stiffs in Scotland.

Everybody on here knows the bottom of the barrel beer that I love, but every once in a while like tonight I feel the need to support the poor working stiffs in Scotland.

Others have weaknesses for loose women, fast cars, and (shock, horror, dismay) tobacco products. You are still looking like an innocent choir boy!

My friends love Yuengling, they frequently do road trips out of new england to pick up a bunch of cases. I think its a great beer, but not worth the drive I will stock with my Homebrew. mmmmm.
