Grill thermometer

My propane grill went south so I saved the thermometer. Thought I would try it on one of my stoves.
I machined a block of aluminum and drilled a hole for the probe and put some heat sink in it.
Seems to be just as accurate as the other thermometer's that I have. Also checked against the Reytek IR.

The exact temp of a stove is overrated in my opinion. If that setup you made were 50 to 75 degrees off, so long as it reads consistently each and every time, then it is a useful tool that the operator can use to judge one fire versus another with. The fact that it reads dead on with your other measuring devices is a bonus.

I like the fact that it faces up and forward too.

I've been thinking about the same thing. Looks great. Let us know how it's working (accuracy, response). Not that it matters, but because some of us (me) are a bit obsessive.

I checked it against an IR and was within a few deg. It actually seemed more accurate than my 3 others on my stoves. Unsure how a block of steel would perform, I suspect it would probably lag behind aluminum due to alumunums faster heat conductivity. I think the heat sink helps also.
