I plan to use a Type 2 hearth pad under a Drolet Legend.

Installation directions say "If an electrical blower is being used in conjunction with the UL Listed Fireplace Stove or Solid Fuel Type Room Heater, HY-C Grounding Kit (Part # ULEG - sold separately) is required to ground the Type 2 HY-C Stove Board / Floor Protector / Wall Shield / Ember Protector and electrical blower in accordance with the National Electrical Code." Here is the ground wire:

I can't find instructions on how to do this. Should I attach it under a screw/stud on the stove (where blower attaches) then drill a hole in the pad? Also wondering if I could make my own grounding wire with green teflon shielded 12 gauge wire. Aside from spending $8 on the "grounding kit", the wire doesn't look long enough to go from the stove to the pad (stove has 9" legs and blower's up a couple more inches) - I'd rather not drill a hole in the leg or stove.
