I had a couple fires so far. Not necessary, but I had a new liner installed on my insert and was advised to burn it a few times with the windows open to get the plastic smell out.

Looks like the weather coming this week will justify plenty more burns for us!

Just wear fleece lined pants and they should be warmer:p

Just playing, still no need for heat here on the island. Amazingly warm fall.
I'm totally ok with that.
I have been burning all summer for DHW.

I agree, it supposed to drop to lows 40's I'm so ready. I have 7 cords ready to burn but will most likely use about 4

It isn't cold at all. The weather has been great so far. I like to see the wife and kids nice and cozy.. It suppose to drop quite a bit by end of week

Yeah, I'm leaving for work now, no one home so I plan on lighting up as soon as I walk in the door from work, 61 in the house, something to look forward to.....

Can't wait for some cold weather. Hey that's what we're preparing for...right?:)

I hit my 'ol smoke dragon with some new stove black.. and 1200deg paint on the doors... I lit mine a couple weeks ago.. so I could set the stove black with the windows open... I've fired it twice since then... at this point in the season, cooking dinner is sufficient to keep the chill out. if it's not.... the stove gets lit.

I fired up my new stove (1602r) Thurs. been in the low 40's at night . This week it is supposed to get colder . I' glad I got everything hooked up last week.

Good for you. Enjoy
Great nite since I got home, made apple crumb with my daughter as we enjoy the fire and the room heating up, 3 hours into it I have her twin on the couch with me, going to bed tonight, down here on the couch, nice and warm with flames....
Wife and kids are scared of a fire happening when no one is watching, I guess I will need to start a new thread soon....I seem to be putting in 3 splits every hour so is this normal too....

apple crumb one of my favorites. my wife is the same way when it comes to fire. I hate when I'm not home because she puts the furnace on . I don't like using oil. I been putting about the same amount in my stove also. nothing like a nice fire

I've already done about three fires this season, several days apart. It's the main heat source in the house BTW. Still burning shoulder season style- I'm using 100 percent Tulip Poplar, one of my 'lesser' woods. Probably serious burning is still about a month away here. We are finally getting some overnight temperatures in the 40's, however.

We've had several fires. 82 in the house right now.

Hey NYLumberjack, do you take all your pictures laying down? ;lol

Been burning daily for 3 weeks already. The last week has been a minimum of two per day. I am ready for spring.

We have a POS ZC but I itching to start a fire. We have been just to warm to do it. This weekend is supposed to be in the 30's at night, so maybe this is the time.

Been doing at least one fire (sometimes two) for a week or two now . . . it's been a pretty good and mild Fall so far.

I lit off on Sunday morning as well got to 38 Monday morning and bit chilly tomorrow ~38 and high of 56...geez it was 78 this afternoon.
Heat with a woodstove in a long shoulder season - to burn yourself out or not - that is why you have a lot of wood on hand no being miserly with the stacks:cool:
