I just picked up my first ton today they have gone up $20 to $259 a ton and they no longer have Ultra Premium on the bag, just Premium. My store also has Lignetics pellets for $10 less. I might grab a few of these as well this year.

There is no pellet standard. What do the bags say compared to last year in terms of ash content? That would give you a hint if they are any different. They may have just run out of the lettering for the word "Ultra".

It could be, that there is no longer a grade higher than "Premium"..
The PFI does not have "ultra" or "super" in their grading.

Dan

Last year less than .5% this year less than 1%

Do they happen to sell a couple different grades (may other pellet mfg do), and last year you happened to get the Ultra's? Oops, just googled real quick and their website just shows the one bag - without the "Ultra".

Ill be super pissed if they don't burn as well as last year. I have 4 tons ready to go!

The same for me, on the Hamers. Two Years ago, I had hamers, that had 2 1/8" pellets.
The fines were so moist they would bridge in front of the auger chute, and I would have to dig out the pellets
and vac the fines and scrap the hard. Then screen the rest of the year. (close to 2 tons)
No more for me.
Good luck

They might still be the exact same pellet. 'Less than .5%' would still be 'less than 1%'.

But, <1% (current label implication) ain't equal to, or less than <0.5% (what the previous labeling implied). Looks like the standard was created in 2011 so if they labeling was truthful last year, that means something has changed.

Or, maybe they realized the standard was 1% (think I saw that on pg. 3 of the PDF) and that the 'old' labelling of 0.5% didn't line up with the standards so they just changed the labelling to jive with the standard.

(Disclaimer: non-pellet user here).

I ordered 4 ton of them, they will be here Monday morning. I usually get them in MAy but health issues made me wait until now. Last year 224/ton this year 254/ton 65 bucks for delivery from 30 miles away. Not sure if they were cheaper in May or not.

Three years ago hamers were HOT! Burned clean and beautifully. The last two years not very good at all.

Mine came today, and mine looks like they were bagged last month, no Ultra anymore and the ash is 1% instead of the .5% of last year. Maybe it is the moisture in the wood who knows. Guess I will find out as I now have 7 ton of them and 1/2 ton green golds

I threw a fit at my dealer a couple of months ago over the fact that I ordered Ultra's and got Premium. They swore it was all they could get, and ended up having me speak directly with Hamer's. Turns out that because of changes in standards and much confusion about it, they are producing EXACTLY THE SAME pellet as always, but now labeling it "premium", with the 1% rather than 0.5% ash content on the bag.

I've got six tons ready to burn, so hoping they're right. They've been my go-to pellet for years, and I just decided to burn 'em all year, with no "shoulder" pellets this year except for a few leftover bags and maybe a few that I buy here and there to test. Sure didn't get a deal, though, at $300 / ton in the off season. So if they're not truly as good, will be my last year with them. But I don't doubt what they told me, and the lower ash content with them has always made them worth the higher price. Traditionally much less ash than anything else I've burned, and a great pellet.
