I have been reading through the archives and have picked up some very good information, I can't help but notice the amount of times I have heard someone mention temp's and how that dictates adjusting the airflow into the stove. First where would one setup a temp gauge, and what temps are you looking for before adjusting airflow? Also would an eco fan work on the say 4" shelf that is at the front of my Hampton insert?

I placed a Rutland in the area between the stove top and the top shelf (the area where the hot air exits via the blower).
No need for a eco fan because you can set this stove's blower on auto and it takes care of everything (basically only runs when the stove is hot enough).
The eko fan was to direct hot air in a different direction. Some type of air diffuser on these would be the cats meow. Describe your 3 step process with the air I am curious
It's very easy to choke a fire in a stove. If you shut down the air too fast, you will choke the fire and it will not burn efficiently. The best way to do this is in stages. The movement on the air control arm on the HI300 is about 3.5 inches. I close it one inch at a time to about 1/2" before fully closed over a 15 to 20 minute period. I only start the close process once the wood is fully charred on the sides and there's a good roaring fire.
Stejus, does your damper rod rub on the fan housing a little? My fan sort of rides it and ends up moving up and down just a touch.
Also above you mention "fully closed" You don't keep it open 1/2" all the time or maybe you have the fan off?
Mine seems like I could shut it down all the way with the fan on and still be hot enough but the manual says not to.....

The only time I fully close it is if it too hot in our house and I don't want to use the blower. For the most part I leave it 1/2" open so I can use the blower.
The damper rod rests on the housing, but mine doesn't move. It almost sounds like you have too much vibration with your blowers. Check to see if the blower unit is fully seated. Ours was making a vibration noise once and I noticed the housing wasn't fully seated.

Gotcha. The blower seems all the way back but it doesn't really "seat". I will check it out, maybe I don't have it in just the right place for the tabs to fully line up.
