Bernie Madoff was supposedly making the Mets' ownership so much money that they could sign Bonilla to a contract with deferred payments of $1.2 MM annually to 2035.

Oh ... rabbit, rabbit, too. :)

Actually, the wording above is incorrect. It was to unload him when they still owed him money on a contract.
