Harman 52i rail kit

I've searched far and wide and found many different opinions. My dealer doesn't have any rail kits in stock and said he wasn't sure if he could get one soon. I've heard people say they made them with 2x4s. My issue is that the rollers on the insert are about 3/4 inch off the hearth so getting a 2x4 under there wouldn't work. My hearth is 2 1/2 inches high so I can't just pull the unit out either. Maybe build a box 2 1/2 inches high and some 3/4 inch metal strips for the rollers? Any ideas? What are you new 52i guys using?

I used 3/4" square steel tubing for rails and made mini benches out of some left over 2 x 6 pieces to keep the rails supported. as long as it's all squared up it works great.

I used 1-1/2" flat bar cut into 4' lengths with some wood stands that I fabbed up, about $20.00 total. I countersunk the screws to recess them and also had to grind the edges of the flat bar to narrow it a bit to insert fully into the stove rails-weld/spatter inside the rails. Works great ands I disassemble my rail kit for storage.

Build your own it's pretty easy and cheap. My hearth is 6" off the floor. I built a box around 24"wide x 32"deep out of 2 x 6. I put in two floor joist in the
middle of the box and topped it with plywood. I also used two pieces of flat stock metal so the wheels roll real nice. I just used some shims to put under the flat stock where it goes across the hearth to match the height of the stove coming out of the cage. I know that I may have gone overboard on what I built. Let me say this though I am very happy that I did because this stove is extremely heavy and it will twist on you a little bit if you are not careful. This buts right up against my hearth so there is no chance at all of the stove falling on the floor. It also gives me 360 degrees of access to get at the stove and clean it with plenty of room. I'm using the kit offered by Harman. Included in my pkg price and I think I paid $175. Haven't used it yet but also would agree you can make your own sucsessfuly as many have posted. I also agree the unit is heavy and I'm not too excited about pulling the unit out with or without the Harman kit vs home built. A lot to be said for a free standing unit but I have the fireplace and an insert just made sense,

I have a feeling if he did order one it wouldnt be $175. I could build my own but would rather just drop the cash on the manufactured piece. I know, I know...I lose some man points for not wanting to build something.

Professional manufacturers are in business for a reason -- you retain you man card. But why should a dealer be disinterested in ordering a part for you? Is that some unacceptable amount of effort on his part? May be time to vote with your feet...

I guess disinterested was a bad choice of words because we had such a good experience with the dealer. He basically said to just make one, and hinted that the reason they dont have them in stock is because a.) they are expensive and b.) they're simple to make so he doesnt sell any.
I was reading some other posts and see that people have been quoted a wide range from $150 up to $500. If I can find one on the low end of that scale i'll buy it, if its on the high end ill get the tools out.

Called another stove shop and was quoted $380 . Looks like i'll be breaking out the tool belt afterall.

How did you go about fixing it to the box? I guess i could drill through it and put a screw into it to keep it secure.
