I have a question for any harman p-38 owners. Installed our stove in Sept, and we have this annoying, excessive loud buzzing/grinding noise every time the motor turns the auger. The noise is much louder than the fan. The dealer came out & replaced the motor, but no change in the noise. He stated that little to nothing could be done to fix this problem. The noise can be heard throughout the house & even downstairs. Is this normal for a p-38, and if not, is there a fix for this?

Good friend of mine has a 2005 P-38 he installed
new in 05. I've been over there numerous times
when the stove was cranked and never heard any
noises like you've described. I'd suggest to the dealer
that they further investigate cuz I think he's full of poo.

If the dealer states there is little or nothing he can do to fix
your stove, he should be replacing it with another one.

When my feed auger is on all you can hear is the pellets dropping, other than that you wouldnt even know the motor was turning.

All i hear is the pellets moving. Sounds like a major issue to me.

The dealer has a p-61a running in their store & I heard no noise when the motor turned the auger. However, he simply told me that every stove is different & some louder than others. He also told me that harman, to his knowledge, has never replaced a stove for "noise" issues. I find it very frustrating having paid 2K for a lemon & there are no options available to even complain beyond the dealer, since harman has no direct phone # for issues like this. Anyone aware of any other options I could try?

I remember a thread in here somewhere about someone having some noise issues and they took the auger out and found some burrs in there. Is this ringing a bell for anyone else?
I also get a god aweful clunk every now and again when a pellet gets caught in the auger and it snaps the pellet. If they say it isnt an issue why did they replace the motor then?

You can actually hear the pellets drop in your P38?
My P38 pushes them into the fire but doesn`t drop them.

Something is definitely wrong with your stove and it should be fixed or replaced by Harman or the dealer. If the dealer isn't doing anything for you, call Harman directly. They don't have a contact number listed on their site, but I've looked up their location on the Internet and have used it to look up their phone number with success in the past. The only noise you should hear is the blower, the pellets dropping, and a very slight mechanical noise when the auger turns... you should not be able to hear this from the other side of the house!

Again I have to comment on the pellets dropping? My hearing isn`t good but I never knew pellets actually *dropped* in a P38.

In mine the pellets drop from the hopper into the auger. Its muffled because its at the back of the stove but you can hear them fall into the auger if you listen

Thanks for the clarification. I assumed that was what was mean`t but I wanted to be sure . My hearing probably isn`t good enough to hear it anyway , but I can hear the auger.

I hear the pellets drop into my augur chute...not into the burnpot.
I can hear a low hum when the augur turns on..but its very low ammount of noise, and only cause Im listening intently to it..

Thanks so much for the input all..Zeta, Tinkabranc, Jester, Millerag, Gio & Wet1. I'm rather new to the "pellet stove" world & Hearth.com has been a God send! It's good to know that I wasn't the only one thinking something was wrong with our stove. I will contact the dealer "again" & even let him read these responses from you guys. I believe that will spur some action on his part, and if not, I will attempt to contact Harman as was suggested.....if I can find the #?? Thanks again & God bless.
