Harman P61a Fines Box

Hi folks,

I know there have been many posts about this topic and I feel pretty stupid but can someone help me with the location of the fines box. If you are looking at the back of the stove is it just to the left of the oak intake?

It is a really tight squeeze for me to get behind my stove not to mention that my best plan of attack is to crawl around on the left side of stove (facing from front) just barely getting my head back there...not much room to extend arms or anything. So if someone could help tell me where to look in the first place that would be much appreciated. I have looked at some of the pictures on the forum but can quite get a perspective as to where it is.

Would it be easier to crawl around the right side of stove to get to it? Thanks for you help in advance.

from the front of the stove on your right side bottom back, remove the corner cover with 5/16 nut driver, dont completely remove screws,cover has a slot in it to slide out. then reach up and unscrew the wing nut but not all the way and remove cover by lifting it up.clean your fines then replace cover..make sure cover goes on and is secure or your stove auger wont feed...

my stove is cornered so I have to lay down when I clean the box..
I have a lantern flashlight which I put back there so I can see better..
It's really very easy...
The cover has a slot at the top so make sure it sits correctly when putting it back.
BTW:
I had to move our wooden table/chairs away from the stove last year as 1 of the chair backs starting warping/twisting from being in the direct path of the Blower.....

Those were great instructions. Much easier than I thought it would be. Thank you very much.....the box was pretty full. 4 plus years and never been cleaned

Thank you. At first I don't think I had it seated correctly then it kind of fell into place and I put the wing nut back on.

Anyone know when they changed from a slot for the wing nut to a hole? Not important, but my with my P61A, born in mid 2013, I have to completely remove the wing nut - otherwise that cover ain't going nowhere (yes, I used a double-negative, my mother would die of embarrassment - LOL)

Mine has the slot. Just a few turns on the wing nut and pop the cover up and off....
Stove was made in the summer of 2011.

Good eye - I didn't notice that. Mine doesn't have the shields either.

I knew that but thanks. I just noticed holes in the top and couldn't tell real well from Tony's pic. I thought about them and looked them up for my PC45 if I was going to do an alcove install. They were online somewhere for $110 if I recall correctly and were Harman shields.

On the 45 it cuts the side clearance to combustibles by 5" each side so the nook can be 10" less wide. Still may go that route but think I'm opting for a different location in the same area about 8' away. Don't like the alcove for cleaning and maintenance reasons. It would be tight and when you are having issues and turning wrenches that tends to tick me off a little more. Just thinking it thru for best results.

I just remembered why the shields.
clearance to any combustible wall I think is minimum 9" for Harman Install....[may be wrong on that but close I think]
Although there is NO HEAT at the hopper, in my pix u can see that Left and Right rear corner of the hopper is about 6" from the walls.
that in itself constitutes a heat shield on both sides regardless that the hopper doesn't retain or emit any heat at all.
I had the Stove Professionally installed so they did what was correct...just had a major operation same week..
I prob would not have put heat shields if done myself because of No heat close to back walls but I am fine with the shields being on...

I know the clearance on my P61A is huge for the sides - like 20" without shields. Being in the basement, so far that isn't an issue. Clearance goes down to 14" with shields.

I have the slot. But it makes sense to have the less convienant hole, as it practically forces the cover is positioned correctly. Improperly positioned cover has been the subject of many posts here on the forum.
