I'm shopping for a pellet insert and the salesman told me harman/quad fire were bought out and quality is not the same.

I did Google that they are bought out but is the quality still there?

He told me Avalon AGP is the best model around and that company is quality as they are built here in the U.S.

can anyone confirm this? I was dead set on buying a harman but what he told me threw me off.

Very old news and I wouldn't say it was a major change in quality. I'm pleased with my quad and others with their recent Harmans. Be careful believing anything a salesperson tells you because they are motivated to sell x, y, and z based on how they are paid. Additionally here we are all are biased by our own experiences. Every stove has its pros and cons. Ask about a certain model and Im sure people will chime in on their experiences.

Ok just checking to ensure those are still quality.

A friend of mine just bought a beautiful Harman 52i. She got the majolica brown finish. She had it installed at the end of last winter. It replaced a Quad insert. I can tell you that the quality of the stove is outstanding and it's performance blows the Quad out of the water. She is one happy camper.

Hey EEPS, noticed you were in Ct too, that wouldn't be Dean's inferring that would it?? They are a large Travis dealer, but there are many good pellet stoves out there. I don't sell the AGP, but I know a couple of their customers who would not agree the AGP is all that... Many good brands out there, Quadrafire, Enviro, Harman, Lopi, just to name a few.

Hi stovelark, yes I'm referring to deans. I just want a good quality insert. I really wanted a harman but when he said they were bought out and pretty much said there not great anymore that messed up my plan. Even after the buyouts is the quality and craftsman ship still there for harman and quadrafire? I think those 2 from what I hear are the best.

Thank you

Also I noticed you said they are a Travis dealer, I googled it and saw the site... Is that a good thing or bad thing?says there privately owned.

I got a Harman P61a and am very pleased with it. So pleased that I didn't hesitate to buy a used (but still newer) P43 when the chance arose - and that was even already having a stove (the Hastings in my sig) that worked well for my main floor. Was not actively looking to replace the Hastings - but jumped at the deal on the Harman last spring. So my small house had 3 stoves until I was able to sell the Hastings about 2 months ago.

the Salesman is doing what salesmen do.

I wouldn't buy a bar of soap from Dean's. But that's just my .02 Our salesman at Preston Trading Post had probably one of the easiest sales yesterday. We new we were buying Quadafire Castile but wanted to just put our hands on it and pull some levers ;lol Planned on taking one home but now momma says "oh that bronze color might look nice in the living room"

Hi eeps, Thought u might be talking about Deans. Have run into that a lot from people visiting the store I'm at now and the one I worked at previously. Nothing at all wrong with Harmans or Quadrafires, or Enviro or many more good pellet stoves out there. Travis industries owns Lopi, Avalon, FPX and a couple of other brands. Deans is a large Travis industries dealer by volume, hence why they would prefer their stoves. We sell Quadrafire, Lopi, Enviro, St. Croix, Eco-choice from Heatilator- they're all good stoves if installed and ran properly with good pellet fuel. Unfortunately, some of us sales people sometimes forget to take our personal bias out of a sale and compound the problem by putting out incorrect data or opinions... it happens. If you like the AGP, I'm sure its a good stove, don't have a lot of personal experience with that unit. If you are set on a Harman, I can assure you they are still very high quality stoves as well. I think dealer support after the sale is often overlooked to its value, but again my opinion. Good luck with whatever stove you go with, good quality pellets will make you a happy stove owner.
