Has anyone built their own Hearth Pad?

WOW, that is pretty darn elaborate!
Not sure I can do anything that detailed!
lol

I have a build thread around here somewhere - on my phone so search is limited.

Not as hard as you would think - grout covers a multitude of mistakes

Darn granite weight was about 300 lbs. I winched it upstairs pretty easy with the sled i built. Getting it across the room however was a pain.
Worth it though. A little brick work and it was done.
It has 1/2 durarock under it and 3/4 ply below that and I insulated between the 2x6 joists. Also I have 1 inch air gap behind the rear brick wall.
Granite is bedded in thinset.
