I need to replace my taylor 450 with a new stove and due to the EPA laws and need for one quickly as it is my only source of heat my choices are the Hawken GX10 or the CB E-classic 2400. I heat the house and preheat my water with it as well, house is a real log home with well insulated windows and insulated curtains. heating approx. 1600sq ft. I do have at LEAST one winter of seasoned wood so that is not a problem. Any personal experiences and problems with either are greatly appreciated. It will be burned year round as well. I'm using foam insulated PVC and its 6 foot of head between the back of the stove and the pump so that shouldn't be a problem either. Only 48ft between stove and heat exchanger. if any other information is considered can someone let me know? I've tried to include everything here.

the cb 1450 is also an option as well, although most of my wood is cut "by eye" to 24in which is pretty close to the depth of the firebox.

Have you looked at pellet boilers or coal stokers?
The coal stokers using anthracite produce no smoke
and provide double the amount heat per ton.
The pellet stokers and the coal stokers are half as
expensive (using Harman or Keystoker as an example)
and you could put it in a simple shed or one car garage
and insulate it.

Here's enough coal to see me through to Valentine's Day, two tons, six feet from the boiler, 4'x5'x5'.

I have a 2400 eclassic, and it has been great so far (1 year). I did the install myself, used the best parts available, and the wife keeps the house at 72 degrees, she's happy. So what has been the problem? Upon start-up this year, (we do not burn year round) the Firestar II controller has gone on the fritz. Not cool, and the process to swap out the unit and get my hands on a fully warrantied replacement involves me buying the replacement ($450!) and then getting reimbursed, and I have to do the labor and drive the 1.5 hour round trip to the dealer.....

I have a standard Hawken 1000 going on 8 seasons now. I am happy with it as it does exactly what it is suppose to and is a simple setup. Pretty sure the gx10 would be more comparable to cb1450 as far as output. If you require a boiler the size of the 2400 I think the Hawken is going to be to small.
@ pulse, I don't actually need a boiler that big, I just would kind of like to go with a bigger model in case I decide to ever expand but 450 of the 1600sq ft. is also supplemented with a solar heater, the only thing that I'm not a huge fan of is that there isn't a separate section for the hot water lines and that its a basic tank with two zones. At least thats my understanding of it. someone please correct me if i am wrong. Either way i went with the hawken and will be picking it up wednesday.
