I've been lurking here for a while and have really learned a lot from your experiences. Of course my wife and have settled on an insert that I haven't seen mentioned too often. Let me know if any of you have an opinion of the price.

2009 model Hearthstone Clydesdale in matte black w/ std blowers, surround, freight to my fireplace - $2623
Extended surround - $145
Total with Sales tax - $2930.

Installation is $1800 with insulated stainless steel flex liner.

Grand total redy to burn - $4730. What do you think? Good Deal? Thanks in advance!

Seems to be on the right track. Hard to say about the installation without knowing more about the setup and what is being done. Did you get an itemized estimate for the installation? Can you describe the flue on the current fireplace. Is it tile lined, exterior or interior?

Tile lined exterior wall, in the lower level of a split entry house. I am working out the installation details today and will post more when i get it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The local shop gets $2,600 for the Clydesdale on special order. They only stock the Morgan.

Search the forum for "clydesdale" and you will find a lot of info on this insert. I think overall it is a well performing insert, just keep your wood dry and fires hot and the stove puts off a lot of heat. Good luck with your search. There is plenty of info on here about the Clydesdale.

Like BeGreen said, without seeing pix or having the installation outline, it's hard to say if the price is good,
but based on my install experience, it sounds a little high.
What kinda labor rates are they charging?
A 25' liner (in this area) is $550+/- & labor for installation is about 3 to 3.5 hours.
You make the call

Its easy to say thats a sweet deal. Retail just went up to $3199. Installation seems spot on.

The price for the stove seems good, but the installation does seem a bit high to me. I'll have to go back and check my paperwork from last year, but I recall the liner (30') and related materials to be around $600 and the installation to be $550-600 for the same stove.
