I have an Escape I30FB-LP gas insert. The pilot keeps shutting off after about 40 seconds. I reset the unit and the same thing keeps happening and the fire never lights. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be. The pilot flame does turn the thermocouple red.

Do you have the ability to remove the thermocouple from the valve & test it?
You will need a small open-end wrench & a multimeter set to vDC...

I need to open it up to see if I can get at it. Would a bad thermocoule cause the pilot to go out after 40 seconds. I tried just having the pilot on and not have the fireplace light?

If the thermocouple does not generate enough millivolts, or if it loses millivolts over time, then it will shut the pilot down
